Synopsis of Part One
Issue 1 introduces our two heroes to each other as they seek the same mysterious egg shaped rock. Ace Random, whose strange powers manifest themselves depending on which card is drawn from any normal deck, is after the Egg to keep it from falling into the hands of anyone who would unleash its dark power upon the world. Moon Bandit, on the other hand, a man highly trained in espionage and martial arts, simply wants to add the Egg Of Zingora to his collection of rare and priceless artifacts. Amid some tension, the two eventually team up to try to keep the ancient stone from falling into the hands of the Nazis.
Inspiration for The Egg
Pete and I originally got the idea to publish a comic for real back in 1997. We were at Mom's house on a break from college, sitting on the porch shooting ideas around over soda and snacks. We knew from the beginning that we wanted to set the story during the Second World War because we felt a certain affinity with the spirit of that era. Our mutual love of the Indiana Jones films served to amplify that feeling, as well as some superhero comics turned feature films such as The Phantom and The Shadow. I had also discovered Mike Mignola's Hellboy comics which had a tremendous impact on my creative tendencies. We talked about all these ingredients and mused about what kind of stew we could cook up on our own.
We have been creating fictional characters in our own stories as far back as I can remember. Once, when I was shuffling around in the attic of our parent's house, I came across a drawing Pete did of two of his characters shaking hands, with the title "Evans Team-Up" in large letters under it.
Fast forward back to the summer on the porch: I said, "Pete, why don't we each come up with a new character and have this comic be a team up story?" Pete agreed it was a good place to start, and off we went.
It is only recently, in the early months of 2007, that we finally gave in to the idea of publishing our comics on the web. Financially it makes sense, as there's no printing cost. Also, the opportunity to reach a huge audience is at your fingertips, especially since the webcomics community has been growing at such a staggering rate.
In the future, we'd like to publish in print as well as the web. Until then, we'll just keep creating and see what opportunities come up!
